The gauges above look great.  Completely rebuilt/refurbished by North Hollywood Speedometer.  Long before I sent them out, the clock had stopped working.  Please scroll down to see what repairs were made to the clock and enjoy the video too.

The clocks in 356's are electro-mechanical devices.  They use electricity only to wind the clock.  Sometimes these clocks stop working and it is for a variety of reasons.  If you're lucky, it is only dirt on the points and needing lubrication.

It's pretty common today to send one of these clocks out and have new, modern quartz internals put inside the clock.  But then you would not hear the clock winding every few minutes, and the clock would no longer be original.

For my clock, one of the gears stripped out.  I bought a donor clock, dismantled it and removed the gear I needed.  I cleaned the points, lubed the assembly, installed the new gear cluster and it has been working like a champ for years!  In the photos below I am pointing to the worn area with a paper clip.

Here are the photos of the gear replacement on my clock.  In the photo of the gear stack, the problem area is the uppermost gear.  That is supposed to be one solid gear, not looking like two pieces.

At the bottom of the page, there is a video describing the clock function.  ENJOY!
